Promotion of Land Rights and Access to Land Justice in the Oil Rich Buliisa District is a one (1) year project funded by USAID SAFE Program aim at contributing towards strengthen the capacity of the formal and informal land management and administration institutions in Ngwedo and Kigwera sub counties, Buliisa District by the end of 2015, through the following objectives; to create awareness on land rights, policies, laws and regulations, strengthen the capacity of area land committee, district land board and local council courts in order to demonstrate transparency, accountability and good governance and support victims of land rights violation through provision of legal aid support. The objectives will be achieve through carry out the following activities: holding stakeholder meeting and conduct community outreach sessions inorder to create awareness on land rights, policies, laws and regulations, hold capacity building sessions to strengthen the capacity of the institutions of land administration for proper land management and administrations to enable them meets their obligations and demonstrate transparency, accountability and good governance, recruit and train community legal volunteers (CLVs) to monitor land rights violations, conduct mediation, refer the clients, and act as focal point persons for BIRUDO and conduct mobile legal clinics through providing on spot legal advice and counseling and mediation will also be conducted where necessary. For clients who need further help interms of court access will be referred to Legal Aid Project of Uganda Law Society in Masindi District.
The project is target groups are Area Land Committee, District Land Board and Local Council Courts, Cultural Leaders, Clan Leaders, Local Community, Local communities, the vulnerable groups (women, widows, children, elderly, people with disability, and people living with HIV).
